The rules for the Puskás Award can be found on the page where you can vote until February 3 for the three goals you think deserve the award. A professional panel will then choose the best of the three goals that receive the most votes).
On Friday morning, Nemzeti Sport wrote to FIFA regarding the deadline in the rules, according to which the 2022 Puskás Award can only be awarded to footballers who scored a goal worthy of recognition or nomination between August 7, 2021, and July 31, 2022.
We were curious to know how it could happen that there are four footballers among the nominees who scored their respective goals outside the indicated time period.
A FIFA press officer replied in less than 45 minutes. The response is published without change:
“Hi
Thanks for your message. You are right. It's a mistake.
If you check the other languages (German, French, Spanish), the correct dates are included...the English one it's an older document...we are going to replace it. Thanks again
All good
Kind regards”
Of course, we immediately checked that the correct version of the document had been uploaded to the website, and it turned out that it got changed immediately. According to the corrected document, the relevant period is now from August 8, 2021, to December 18, 2022.
Although it would have fit in the deadline and the nominees, unfortunately, Ádám Szalai's backheel flick goal against Germany did not make the top eleven.

Joseph Blatter, the then FIFA President, announced the foundation of the Puskás Award in Felcsút on October 20, 2009, in the company of Viktor Orbán. The mastermind of the idea was a sports-loving engineer, István Csorba, who shared his ideas with György Szöllősi, then a staff member of the football column of Nemzeti Sport and now editor-in-chief of our newspaper, in 2006.
The idea became a reality in December 2009, when Ferenc Puskás' widow presented the trophy to the first winner, Cristiano Ronaldo of Portugal, at the FIFA Gala in Zurich. Since then, Hungarian player Dániel Zsóri has also won the award.
It will be the 15th Puskás Award this year!
