The street named after Ferenc Puskás, the legendary footballer of the Golden Team and Real Madrid, was inaugurated in the Spanish capital on Wednesday.

"We are proud of Ferenc Puskás as the most famous Hungarian, who made his career extremely successful during a difficult and challenging historical period," said Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary, at a short ceremony in the Vicálvaro district of eastern Madrid. The street sign with Ferenc Puskás' name was unveiled together with the editor-in-chief of our newspaper, György Szöllősi, Ambassador of Hungarian Football Tradition and Affairs concerning Ferenc Puskás.

He also noted that Puskás is still remembered around the world despite having died 15 years ago. He praised the performance of the best footballer of his time and recalled Puskás' unbeaten record: in the last 60 years, no one has been able to score four goals in the European Championship or the Champions League final.

The minister called Puskás a connecting link between Hungary and Spain, and he expressed thanks to the Spanish people, to Real Madrid and the city of Madrid for keeping his memory green.

The decision was born a decade ago, but due to the construction industry crisis, there were no real streets or houses in the designated area. Now the situation has changed, and they're pulling up the apartment buildings.

"Ferenc Puskás is a fundamental figure in Real Madrid's history. Real Madrid's legendary story would be impossible to understand without Ferenc Puskás. Ferenc Puskás is on our coat of arms, our shirts, our uniforms, and we always keep him in our hearts," said Emilio Butragueño, Real Madrid's international director.

He noted that Puskás was a member of an unforgettable generation that contributed to Real Madrid growing into a myth.

"We are proud to have a street that will forever make Ferenc Puskás' figure memorable," he added.

Santiago Saura, Member of the Madrid City Council, also gave a speech and presented an original street sign to Péter Szijjártó and Puskás' granddaughter, Réka Damborena Puskás, who arrived for the inauguration with his daughter Ane from Basque Country.

Along with the locals, former Real Madrid forward, Amancio Amaro also attended the ceremony. He played with the Hungarian legend nicknamed Pancho in Spain from 1962 to 1966. Mark Sebastian Dévai, president of the Hungarian fan club of Real Madrid, Peña Madridista Húngara, and Katalin Tóth, the HungarianambassadortoMadrid, were also present. Real Madrid TV even recorded the event.
