But that's not the only good news from the track: the renovation of Hungary's largest sports facility will begin as part of the strategic development program. The first step will be the improvement of utilities, and a new gatehouse, management center and customer area will be built to match the standard of the facility.
The circuit in Mogyoród has been on the calendar of the world's most popular Formula 1 series since 1986 - second only to Monza - and has now reached a milestone as, after many years, the now-vital strategic development program finally begins.
The first step is to upgrade the obsolete utilities, which were already essential for continued reliable operation. This will involve upgrading the drinking water, fire water, wastewater and electricity networks while building new networks and constructing a low-voltage substructure.
Also in the first phase, the main entrance of Hungaroring will be renewed, and a customer area will be created to match the standard of the facility. In addition to all this, a café will be opened opposite the gatehouse building, which will be the home of the Hungaroring Shop, to fans' great delight. The two buildings will be connected by a modern and impressive portal.
"I took over the management of Hungaroring in 2010, and we have been waiting for this moment practically since then," Zsolt Gyulay, Chairman and CEO of Hungaroring Sport Zrt., began his statement. “Of course, we have not been idle in the past period either: our track has undergone a number of renovations, we have worked continuously to ensure that it meets new safety requirements, built a debris fence system, maintained the grandstands, and in 2016, we resurfaced the entire track, or more precisely, we replaced the top, so-called wearing course. However, given what is happening in Formula 1 and the new tracks that are coming in, this is not enough, it really is the penultimate moment to start the work. We see that among the many uniformed tracks, there is an increasing value for traditional venues like the Hungarian one, and the proximity of Budapest will always be an incredible attraction for Hungaroring. But we must not overlook the fact that the infrastructure of the new tracks will allow a much higher level of service than ours. Thanks to the strategic development program, we will be able to compete with them in the foreseeable future, which will allow us to host the
Formula 1 series here and thus draw attention to our country and our beautiful capital year after year."
Zsolt Gyulay added that the interest in the racing circus is amazing, and it is a great pleasure for Hungaroring that the number of season tickets and day tickets sold out at such a pace – it shows that not only the drivers but also the fans love our track. The numbers for the 2022 Hungarian Grand Prix also showed the following: on Sunday, 100,000 spectators watched the race on location (290,000 fans over the four days), and the “sold out” sign was put out in April at Hungaroring. Now, this date has been brought forward to December...
