The Hungarian men's water polo team finished third in Tokyo as bronze medalists after defeating Spain 9–5 in the “little finals.” After the match, goalkeeper Viktor Nagy said that this was the last match of his career.

– Was it just the water that irritated your eyes, or were you really in tears at the end?
– I manfully admit that the guys made my cry. I really felt them, their vibrations throughout the game, that they were playing for me because they knew this was the last game of my career, that I was going to end it. It was nice what they provided me in the end, and I thank them for it. Likewise, I thank my parents who put me on this road and took me to training persistently, and my wife, whom I met when I was 20. We've been together ever since, she's helped me through everything in everyday life, I owe her a lot. I'm extremely grateful for her.

– Did we read your lips correctly that you said, “This is my day?”
– Yes, I was selfish in the water, maybe I could be one then... Four or five years ago I planned that this would be my last match, but I miscalculated a little because I was aiming for the final. Unfortunately, it didn't happen because we didn't play quite well in the semifinals as we did this time or in the quarterfinals. I regret it a little bit, but I would add that I'm also proud of the team because many sports psychologists would be proud of what we achieved in a day and a half. In our WhatsApp group, we created an energy bomb that exploded in the water here. Even with that kind of biased referee... It's quite saddening that something like this can happen and you can't take it with humor, as some people do – we must do something about it. We just did it by winning; we won against a very strongly “pushed” Spanish national team.

– However, you can say goodbye after not getting a goal for two quarters straight!
– I've always stressed in my career that I can save well, perform well when I have the guys moving comfortably in front of me and I can see the shots. So, I owe this goalless two quarters to them. It feels great to get on the plane by taking the medal home for Hungary, our families and ourselves.
