The Hungarian national football team hosts England on Thursday in a World Cup qualifier at the Puskás Ferenc Aréna. Prior to the match, head coach Marco Rossi and András Schäfer answered press questions.

Marco Rossi said the following before the game against England.

"It's never easy to predict the twists and turns a given match has in store for us. We try to prepare for the English to the best of our ability. We have experience of what it is like to play against stronger opponents on paper and the difficulties we may face. My team has already proven that it has the right character, and can play without fear. Tactically, we definitely need to play on the pitch in an organized manner, and we mustn't give way to fear, even if we're aware of how strong our opponent is. If we can work as a team, then, as we've seen in our last 16 games, we can do anything. Whatever the outcome, after the final whistle, I want to be satisfied with our performance and attitude. That's what the fans expect of us: to look our opponents in the eye and show no fear on the pitch.”

He pointed out that there is a solution to replace Ádám Nagy, who's suspended, but whether his idea is good, it will only be revealed on the pitch. The same is true of the right winger's defensive post, from which Loïc Négo and Gergő Lovrencsics were also dropped out. However, Dominik Szoboszlai, who missed the European Championship, is available again.

”The quality of the team has increased greatly with his return. First and foremost, I expect him to be able to give the team an extra boost in finishing the attacks. But to do that, we have to create the situation, and that's what we'll strive for.”

He also said that after Szabolcs Schön just arrived from the United States on Tuesday, he will definitely not play against England.

Rossi recalled that the English team lost out to Italy in the European Championship final only by penalties. He is aware of the values and strengths of the opponent: they can gain an advantage from any situation, find open spaces easily, can prevail in closed game situations, and they are also good at free kicks. He believes they represent an even stronger team than their fourth place in the FIFA rankings.

András Schäfer said the following before the World Cup qualifier against England.

"It's always great to come to the national team; it's like I'm coming home.It was nice to meet the guys. We sat down together, shared stories of the European Championship, and we agreed that this is a great start to take the positive things to the World Cup qualifiers. All three matches are tough, and the games against England and Albania are particularly important. After playing against well-known footballers at the European Championship, we don't think about who's in the England squad. I hope the atmosphere will be the same at the Puskás Aréna as at the European Championship. The fans are one of our biggest weapons. We still have a clean slate at FIFA events, so I would like to ask them to do what the head coach does, too: avoid racist slurs and boos.If we beat the English, it would give us a huge boost. If that were to happen, we would have to be just as committed to playing the other games. Good European Championship performance or not, we have to stay down to earth, we must not lose touch with reality.”

He also answered whether he would celebrate a goal for England the same way he did against Germany.

"Probably, but I wouldn't burst into tears when I get down on my knees. I'd keep screaming. But it doesn't matter who scores the goal; let's just get a good result.”

Finally, Schäfer also pointed out that he did not deal with changing clubs during the transfer window or before the World Cup qualifiers.Nor does he think about why Hungarian players failed to sign with elite clubs after the European Championship.
